St Joseph's Safeguarding CurriculumĀ

At St Joseph's, we are committed to providing a holistic safeguarding curriculum that empowers our pupils to stay safe, act responsibly, and grow in dignity. Our approach integrates four key pillars:

  • Relational Safety (Ten Ten: Life to the Full): Rooted in Catholic teaching, we teach children that they are "Created and Loved by God," providing the spiritual and emotional foundation for healthy boundaries and self-worth.

  • Technical Safety (Kapow Computing): We equip pupils with the practical skills needed for the digital age, from managing data privacy and "digital footprints" to identifying online scams and understanding AI ethics.

  • The Power of Voice (NSPCC): Through "Talk PANTS" and "Speak Out Stay Safe," we provide children with the explicit vocabulary to recognise abuse and the confidence to seek help from trusted adults or Childline.

  • Real-World Context (Picture News): On a weekly basis, we use current affairs to apply our safety knowledge to the wider world, fostering critical thinking, British Values, and media literacy.

A safe culture and environment beyond the curriculum, we maintain a "Culture of Vigilance." This means that safeguarding is not just a lesson, but a lived experience. From "St Francis" class to our "St Oscar", leaders ensure that every child knows who their "Trusted Adults" are and understands that our school is a "telling school." We ensure our physical and digital environments are secure, monitored, and designed to protect the wellbeing of every member of our community.

Through this "Spiral Curriculum," we ensure that safety messages are revisited and deepened as children progress through our school, ensuring they leave us as resilient, informed, and courageous digital citizens.
